I think I just discovered an adult playground. A place where big boys and girls can get creative, burn off some steam, benefit from exercise, and make new friends. Ready 2 Dance is that place.
Ready 2 Dance Ribbon Cutting
I remember being in awe of the studio space the first time I walked in at their ribbon cutting in . A beautiful dance floor, surrounded by mirrors. A reception area that made me want to take a seat and grab my book. It was welcoming and so exciting!
I quickly learned you won’t walk in to the studio without receiving an impromptu lesson. Even at their ribbon cutting in April of 2023, I learned a quick push-pull.
Leadership Watertown
I joined Leadership Watertown this year, and on the very first day we were challenged with a “team building” exercise. Turns out, our class of 19 students was asked to bond over…line dancing! While some students may have been apprehensive at the start, Rachel put everyone at ease, and it was a memorable (and great) time!
Just for fun
I’ve had great experiences at Ready 2 Dance during work events, but when I saw they offered adult hip-hop, I was in JUST FOR FUN! I had my eye on their regularly scheduled hip-hop Friday class for a few weeks, and when the Thriller dance was announced, I registered! You just never know when those moves will come in handy.
How it works
I hopped on their website and registered from their calendar of events. I had the option of paying online or in person. So easy! Step two was to recruit friends. Check! Final step, go to class.
Class
Hip-hop is led by talented choreographer, Vanessa Yenor. She was energetic and made us all feel very comfortable. Class consisted of 11 students (not all are pictured). Vanessa lined us up and gave us a couple of steps at a time. Then we’d repeat that sequence several times until she felt we were comfortable to move on to the next steps. After we had the second segment down, we’d combine it with the first. Rinse and repeat until we finished her entire sequence. Class is 60 minutes long, with a break at the halfway mark. sip of water, laugh with the group, and get back to work. At the end, we went through the full sequence several times just for fun. Pardon the fuzzy photos. They were taken from video (which you can catch at the end).
Just do it
I highly recommend you take a class with friends, family, or all by yourself. I promise you will leave with satisfaction, regardless of your moves on the floor. Did we make mistakes? Sure did. And who cares?! The fun outweighed the fear, and I cannot wait to do it again.
But wait, there’s more!
Hip-hop not your thing? No worries. Ready 2 Dance has regularly scheduled programming for line dancing, ballroom dancing, social dances, and so much more. They also offer kids classes, and the beautiful space is available to rent. It has hosted craft fairs, private parties, public events, and is the location of Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly networking meeting, Wake Up Watertown.
Here it is.
Not everyone chose to be filmed, which is entirely understandable. Ok, I’m going to be brave and hit publish on this. Here you go…Thriller!
